GreenLight Initiative Launches Groundbreaking Project: “Catalyzing Youth Actions for Accountability in Governance”.
GreenLight Initiative, with support from the Nigeria Youth Future Fund and LEAP Africa, is proud to announce the commencement of its transformative project, “Catalyzing Youth Actions for Accountability in Governance.” This initiative aims to address the challenges preventing Nigerian youths from presenting a united front, irrespective of their political affiliations, and to delve into the root causes behind the lack of accountability in governance.
The aftermath of the recent general election in Nigeria has revealed a concerning trend of disenchantment among the nation’s youth. The diverse opinions stemming from the election’s outcome have left many young people disheartened and disillusioned. Central to this sentiment is the perceived failure of elected leaders to fulfill their campaign promises, resulting in a decline in youth engagement in political activities.
The “Catalyzing Youth Actions for Accountability in Governance” project seeks to explore factors hindering a unified youth movement and understand why the youth are not holding elected officials accountable for their promises, develop strategies to empower the younger generation, encourage active participation in the democratic process and cultivate a culture of accountability to ensure elected officials deliver on their pledges, transcending political affiliations.
Despite the enthusiasm displayed during the election, the post-election period is equally critical. It is during this phase that citizens, particularly the youth, play a pivotal role in holding elected officials accountable for their commitments. The project emphasizes the urgency of catalyzing youth actions to instigate greater accountability in governance.
As the project unfolds, stakeholders, policymakers, and the public are urged to reflect on the importance of cultivating an informed and engaged youth population. Active participation and accountability are paramount to preserving democratic ideals and effectively addressing the aspirations of the Nigerian youth.
GreenLight Initiative is committed to fostering positive change and looks forward to collaborating with partners and stakeholders to create a more accountable and inclusive political landscape for the youth of Nigeria.
